Our Christmas donations for Fundació Catalana d´Esclerosi Lateral Amiotròfica Miquel Valls (ELA - ALS - Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis) and Fundació la Marató de TV3
This year we have supported two foundations within our Christmas donation. Both are located near our production site in Montcada (Barcelona).
Fundació Catalana d´Esclerosi Lateral Amiotròfica Miquel Valls started in 2005 in Calella (Barcelona) as a private, non-profit foundation. Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig's disease, is a neurodegenerative disease that affects motor neurons in the brain, brainstem and spinal cord, which are the cells responsible for transmitting the order of voluntary movement of the brain to the muscles.
The Miquel Valls Foundation has a team of professionals specialized in caring for people affected by ALS and other motor neuron diseases and to offer support to their families. ALS is considered a minority or rare disease, there are an estimated amount of 350,000 people affected worldwide.
In spite of not having a cure yet or a treatment available at the moment to stop the degenerative process of ALS, the hope is that the research will succeed and an effective treatment for ALS is going to be found. Scientists and researchers around the world are currently working on different pathways and strategies to achieve a common goal: "Beat ALS."
Fundació la Marató de TV3 dedicates 2020’s edition to Covid’19.
The Fundació La Marató de TV3 was created in 1996 by the Catalan Audiovisual Media Corporation – Catalan TV. Since then, every year in December, there’s a TV program that lasts a whole day and that is dedicated to a particular disease. The main aim of La Marató de TV3 Foundation is to promote biomedical research through the funds raised by the program.
2020’s edition will take place on the 20th of December and it will be dedicated to raise funds to fight against Covid’19. It will appeal for public support in gathering resources to fight against this widespread disease.
