The fire protection regulations for the building envelope can vary greatly from country to country. However, they all share the goal of protecting the people living in the buildings. A particular emphasis is therefore placed on the system concept of the façade. In addition to the safety of the individual building materials, one also has to consider the building as a whole: wall structure, insulation, substructure, façade material, dimensioning, layout, joining technology, etc. – all components and parameters influence the behaviour of a building whenever a fire breaks out.
Based on our aluminium composite panels, we offer numerous solutions for the renovation and construction of buildings, and thus to facilitate the construction of fire-resistant buildings. Our façade material ALUCOBOND® has been tested in accordance with EN 13501.1 “Reaction to fire”. This test considers the performance and safety of the product as if it were installed as a system.
For a fire-resistant, rear-ventilated façade, we therefore recommend ALUCOBOND® PLUS (EN classes B-s1, d0) or ALUCOBOND® A2 (EN classes A2-s1, d0) in combination with flame-retardant or non-combustible mineral insulation. This combination shows no flame propagation or critical rises in temperature, and even exceeds the requirements of BR135. This has been proven by four BS8414 large-scale fire tests by the BRE at the end of 2016 and beginning of 2017.
We also collaborate with national authorities, and work at a European level to improve the fire safety of buildings.
